Conclusion: By Taylor Cook

In my opinion this has been a great semester in terms of learning new information in class. Although I am not a Sports Management major, I am extremely into sports and a lot of the things that we learned about and discussed this semester have been very knowledgeable and rewarding. Our class was very involved in the class discussions and that made for a very good classroom setting. I wish all of my classes here at BGSU revolved around class discussion like this one does.

I think the thing that I liked the most about this class in terms of learning was definitely talking about Title IX. The reason behind this is because I really was not aware of all the things that went into Title IX. It was more then just making women have the same amount of sports teams as men in College athletics, because before this class that is all that I thought it was. I also really enjoyed learning about the debate over whether or not inter-sex and transgender athletes should be allowed to participate in sports opposite of their original sex. It was very interesting to learn about the athletes who have been ridiculed like Caster Semenya because of the way she looks and sounds. Before this class I really didn't know anything about that aspect of sport, so it was very interesting to me. That was the coolest thing to me about this class, I see myself as a huge sports nut and I learned more about sports in this class then I think I knew before!

This was the first time that I had ever had to write a Blog entry each week for a class and I have to say that it was a very fun process and I really liked it. I may actually continue writing a sports blog just because it is nice to talk about things that you see on the news each week and put it into writing. It was also good to be able to comment on other students blog posts because we had several students post very very good ones that I thought we definitely worth commenting on. I honestly think that posting and reading the blog each week made it easier to retain the information we talked about in lecture. The blog posting is something that should definitely be continued in the coming classes and I hope that I will see strategies like this in the classes that I have remaining before I graduate.

Overall, I would say that this class was a definite success and I will remember almost everything that we talked about on a daily basis because sport and gender is such a fun and easy topic to learn about. It was a pleasure learning and holding class discussions with everyone and I know that I will always remember the Sport and Gender class that I took here at BGSU.
