My
name is Janelle Campbell and I am from a suburb outside of Pittsburgh
Pennsylvania called Beaver Falls. In
High School I played varsity basketball, I ran track and field both for my
school and for the Junior Olympics, I was a gymnast until 10th
grade, I did martial arts and received my black belt in 11th grade,
and I was a Cheerleader only for Football throughout high school. I came to Bowling Green because I received
a scholarship to run Track and Field here.
I competed on the track team up until this year because I had a job
opportunity I couldn’t pass up.
The
female athlete I chose to pay to see would be Allyson Felix. Last summer in London, she became the first
woman to win three gold medals at the Olympics since 1988. She won her first
silver medal at the age of 18. She has accomplished so much at such a young
age. Felix is truly an inspiration to me as well as many others. I have been an
athlete my whole life and ran track at a D1 school. I feel like I can relate to
Allyson Felix. I love watching sports, especially anything that has to do with
track & field. That is why I would love to see Allyson Felix perform. It
would be a great experience to watch her compete and hopefully someday I get
the opportunity to make that happen. The
YouTube clip I have attached is when Allyson Felix dominates the 200m dash at
the 2012 Olympics in London. This was
such an exciting event to watch and I would love to see her compete in person.

The male athlete I chose to pay to see would be Derrick
Rose. He is an NBA point guard for the Chicago Bulls. Besides being thrilled
with his looks, I love the way he plays as well as the way he carries himself
on and off the court. The fact that Rose is from Chicago and is now the star of
the Chicago Bulls is amazing. He was selected first overall in the 2008 NBA
Draft and also obtained Rookie of the Year. I love how he plays and how
aggressive he is. He gets to the hoop at will and doesn’t back down from
anyone. I have included a YouTube clip
on Rose that shows his top 10 Plays of the 2011 season. He is such an amazing athlete and that is why
I would love to see him perform.
Overall, I am very excited to be a part of this class. I personally do not have any concerns at all
and I am very eager to start discussions about sport and gender throughout the
semester. I love sports in general so I
am excited to talk about different topics throughout the semester and be able
to give my opinions. I am also looking
forward to also hear everyone else’s thoughts and perceptions as well.

ReplyDeleteHey Janelle. I really like your introduction for a variety of reasons (except for the Pittsburgh part). Of course the main reason is because of your involvement with track and field. I love track and even though I wasn't good enough to get a college scholarship, I stay in touch with the sport by coaching kids here in Bowling Green.
I love Felix like you do because she is the best female athlete in her sport. It is truly remarkable to have the success that she has had at such a young age.
I also love Derrick Rose because of his talents and the fact that he is playing for the city that he grew up in. It is really sad that very few athletes are loyal to the city that they play for, but Rose is everything that you want in a role model.
I look forward to our discussions in class and hearing your opinions. And for the record, I actually love the city of Pittsburgh. I visited there once and it is a great city full of great people. But as a Browns fan, it is in my DNA to dislike the Steelers.

ReplyDeleteHey Janelle!! I found your introduction to be quite interesting! I used to live in a suburb of Pittsburgh as well called West Jefferson Hills! I think its great that you participated in so many different sports! We have a few similarities. I noticed that you used to be in gymnastics, ran track and field, and played basketball. I've participated in those sports as well! I also love Derrick Rose's looks as well as his skills. I think we're going to have a great time with the different discussions in this class!
