Hello everybody! My name is Josh Gibson and I am from Naperville, Illinois where I attended Neuqua Valley High School. Naperville is about forty-five minutes west of Chicago and around four and a half hours from Bowling Green. When I was in high school over three years ago, I was heavily involved in sports and intramurals. Baseball was my main sport, where I played first base and catcher all four years. Other than baseball, I played football for two years and decided to give it up to focus my time on baseball instead. Before coming to Bowling Green my intention was to tryout as a walk-on for the baseball team, however that all changed my senior year of high school when I fractured my right ring finger and pre-maturely ended my career. The injury caused my finger to become permanently distorted and every time I try and pick up a baseball bat, all the pain starts to come back. Since I can't compete in baseball anymore, I have been playing intramural flag football and basketball since my freshman year at Bowling Green.
The male athlete that I would like to see compete in person would have to be Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions. Much like other fans, I believe he is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. The fact that he just set the record for most receiving yards in a season by a wide receiver only makes my opinion that much stronger. Ever since he was drafted from Georgia Tech, Calvin always made these spectacular catches that were just sensational, but the fact that he makes it look so easy is really what astonishes me.

The female athlete that I would like to see compete live would have to be Brittney Griner. She is one of the best centers in all of women's college basketball and her ability to disrupt her opponent's game plan is just phenomenal. The fact that almost every time I turn on ESPN, Brittney is on the court doing something sensational like blocking a shot or dunking the ball that puts her on the top ten plays is really saying a lot about her skills. Since she came to the Stroh Center this past year and I didn't get a chance to see her play, it only makes me even more determined to see her live.

Finally, I don't really have any concerns about this class so far. I'm really looking forward to taking this class because it looks very interesting and already from the first week I'm getting the feeling that I will learn a lot while being in a fun environment.

ReplyDeleteHey Josh!!! I enjoyed reading your introduction blog! I"m also sorry about your ring finger, I could tell by reading your intro that it meant a lot to you. Did you still want to be apart of the team? If so, maybe you could become the assistant student manager. I haven't watched that much football but I'm sure he's a great player like you stated. Also I feel like Brittney Griner is a great player as well. I look forwards to your input in class discussions!
