My name is Max Perry and I'm a senior in the Sport Management program. I'm from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago. I'm a huge Chicago sports fan with my favorite teams being the Chicago White Sox, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks. My favorite sports to play are baseball and basketball and I played baseball in high school.
The male athlete that I said I wanted to see play in class was Derrick Rose. I've seen Rose play a few times in person and I love the way he's always attacking and looking to finish the opponent. It's also a matter of pride as a Chicagoan rooting for Rose because of how he carries himself on and off the court. For an NBA superstar already with one MVP award, Rose is still incredibly humble. He's said repeatedly that he wants to play his entire career for his hometown Bulls and after recently signing a 5 year extension, it's clear that we won't be faced with a LeBron type "decision" in the near future. However as a Bulls fan the main reason I picked him in class was because I want to see him play again after his ACL injury. It feels like the season still almost hasn't started without Rose in the lineup because despite pretty solid play from the Bulls so far, they really don't have a real chance to contend for a title without him.
At this point I have no concerns about taking this class. I'm excited for further discussions about what's going on in sports currently and hopefully we'll be talking about Rose's comeback in class sooner than later.
Hey Max, I am a junior at BGSU and I am from Malaysia. I am not exposed to baseball and football from where I grew up so I do not know much about those sports, which happen to be the two biggest sports in America. I am willing to learn as much as I can about baseball and football. Since you mentioned that you played baseball in high school, maybe I will learn more about the sport from you.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I transferred here from another country I am a big fan of the Chicago Bulls and definitely a fan of Derrick Rose. It is a shame that he tore his ACL. Some say that he will not be the same athlete when he returns but I believe that he will still perform at the top level. I never had the chance to see Rose play in person but I will find time to see him play when he’s back. Besides that, I totally agree with you that the Bulls have a very slim chance of getting the title without Rose.
I am really keen to know who is your female athlete because the way you talk about your male athlete is very interesting. I am looking forward to this class and hopefully get to know more people.

Hey Max, my name is Taylor Cook and it was very cool to read your introduction and see that you are such a loyal fan of your chicago teams! I wish more people would be loyal like you and stick to the teams that they love, instead of jumping around! I definitely agree with you that Derrick Rose is an amazing player and I think he might even be the most exciting player in the NBA period. His injury was terrible for the sport, but I know that he is going to comeback with a mean streak and that he won't settle for anything less then an MVP type season again. I am curious to learn who the female athlete might be that you want to see also, but I am sure that we will learn as the semester goes on!

Hi Max,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your explanation of why you like Derrick Rose. I love what you said about not having to be faced with a "Lebron James" situation in the future. What amazes me is to hear that Lebron could potentially return to Cleveland after his contract with Miami expires in 2014. It is hard to envision that happening. Still I would much rather have an athlete like Rose who is committed to the franchise. I too hope that we get to see him play in the near future. I wondered who you chose for the female athlete you wanted to see. I know I can look it up on your Personal Information sheet, but would be interested to have you explain in more detail like you did with Rose. On another issue, it seems like the Chisox made a good hire with Robin Ventura. How do you think they'll do now that Pierzinski was traded?
This is a good entry. I look forward to reading more of your entries.
