Introduction by Marcus Kok

Greetings everyone! My name is Lizhe Kok but everyone calls me Marcus. I was born and raised in Malaysia and I transferred to Bowling Green State University mainly because of the excellent Sport Management Program that the school offers.
I would play any sport available to me in high school. Unfortunately, I went to a small high school back home in Malaysia and there were not many sports offered. I played golf, soccer, basketball, badminton and tennis during high school. I choose to focus and concentrate on golf so I played less of the other sports in college. I played golf at state level for a couple of years. When I transferred to BGSU, it was difficult for me to get to the golf course due to transportation issues. At BGSU, I started to play more basketball and soccer in the Recreation Center and the Field House because it was so much more convenient. I have been studying at BGSU for a year now and I have competed in soccer and golf intramurals. I finished second for golf.
The female athlete I would like to see more compete is Serena Williams. The main reason is Serena’s power. Her strokes are more powerful than any WTA player. She might even be stronger than some ATP players. Besides that, she is a very complete player and it is very hard to find a player like that nowadays.
The male athlete I would like to see compete is definitely Tiger Woods. This athlete is so strong mentally and can turn the game over in the very last hole. He makes extraordinary shots and he has fantastic hand-eye coordination. Without Tiger, golf is no fun to watch at all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMzTig9h5ik
Finally, I am very excited to take this class and I am looking forward to learn as much as possible. I will be working hard to ace this class.

Hello Marcus, you have a very unique and interesting background. It is always nice to meet someone who is from a different culture because it is fun and interesting to hear a viewpoint on American Sports from a different perspective. I am glad that you attended this college for the Sport Management Program because this program does offer plenty of opportunities for the students involved.
The fact that you played plenty of different sports proves that you love sports in general and enjoy competition. I am a terrible golf player. I think I mastered the "Charles Barkley" swing pretty well (and that is not a good thing).
For your favorite athletes, you choose two superstars who are the main attraction for their sport. Those two sports are "nichie" sports here in America. The sad reality is that if these two superstars are not in the hunt to win a major on their tours, not many people will watch the rest of that major.
You have the right mindset for this class and look forward to working with you this semester.
