Hello everyone. I am Anthony Alford and I am from Maple
Heights, Ohio which is a suburb of Cleveland. In High School, I played
football, indoor and outdoor track for Maple Heights High School. For football,
I played nearly every position on defense. In track, I did every running event
(except hurdles) that was offered in High School. The first time I had to run
the 3200 meter run, I took it as a joke. Then after the first mile, my laughter
turned into tears. Once I came to Bowling Green State University, I stopped
playing organized sports because I was burned out from sports.
My favorite female athlete that I would like to see compete is
Serena Williams. Her competitive nature is unbelievably high. She will do
whatever it takes to be number one in every tournament she participates in. It
does not matter if it’s a singles or doubles tournament. She even has a
take-no-prisoners attitude against her own sister when they face off in majors.
She is simply the best female tennis player in the sport and I believe the best
female athlete in sports.
Ray Lewis
My favorite male athlete that I like to see compete is Ray
Lewis. It seems odd that he would be my favorite player because I am hardcore
Cleveland sports fan. But Lewis is a rare character in sports. He stayed in one
city during his entire NFL career. He defines what the city of Baltimore is and
what the game of football should be about; hard working men doing whatever it
takes to live up to one’s full potential with passion, heart, and class.
Personally, I am rooting for the Ravens to win another Super Bowl for Ray Lewis.
His postgame interview he did after the Ravens defeated the Broncos showed
everyone what kind of man he is. He will be missed in the NFL, but his legacy will
live on forever.
I do not have any concerns with this class. So far, I like
how this class is not all about learning about females in sport (not that this
is a bad thing). But it is equal between men and women. I would be interested
to know how often male and female athletes are attracted to each other because
of sport. I feel there is a reason why the movie Love and Basketball is always
a trending topic on Twitter every time the movie is played on BET. This should be a very fun and interesting class and I am looking forward to it.
Hey Anthony, it’s great that you played so many sports in high school. I personally like to try every sport available for me myself. I know what you are talking about when you mentioned the 3200-meter run. I had the same experience! Honestly, I don’t know much about football because in Malaysia, the amount of people who plays American football is little. I don’t know the rules of baseball and football when I first came to America. Although I was brought up with sports around my life, football and baseball were never big in my country. I’m trying to learn and appreciate football and baseball as much as I can.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you that Serena is the best female athlete in sports today. I picked her as my female athlete as well. It is very true that she does not give any chances to her opponents, even when the opponent is her sister.
Like I said, I don’t know much about football but Ray Lewis is definitely a fantastic line backer. This guy has crazy skills! I did a little research about him and he is a surefire hall of famer. I really like the fact that he is a player that is loyal to his team as that is not common to today’s market driven professional sports setting.
I am really looking forward to this class and I hope we can help each other out throughout the semester.

Hello Anthony, it is very interesting to see that you participated in football and track just like I did when I was in high school. We are very similar because we both were utility players in football and could play almost every position on the field that was asked of us. Although I cannot say that I can relate to being burnt out from sports because I absolutely never get tired of playing them!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you about Ray Lewis as well. He is also one of my favorite players of all time and that guy really knows how to get his team fired up for a game. Hopefully he can get the win this weekend!
I am also looking forward to this semester and I hope that we can become friends and talk some football.
