Introduction (1:00 Class)

By: Matt Goryance

I am from a city called Mentor about a half hour outside of Cleveland Ohio, and about two and a half hours away from BGSU. Throughout high school I played football, basketball, and even lacrosse at one point. I really enjoyed my time at Mentor high school and I believe it is the second largest high school in the state; we graduate close to 1,000 kids every year.

For the female athlete I would like to see compete I didn't pick just one female, but two. I think it would be awesome to watch Misty May and Kerri Walsh play beach volleyball. It is fun to play, and I think even fun to watch beach volleyball and they are an amazing team. They dominated the Olympics for the USA by winning the gold medal in 2004, 2008, and 2012 (where they faced another team from the USA). Not only have they been undefeated in matches but they even had an Olympic win streak of 32 consecutive sets without a loss until the 2012 games against Australia. They have been called "The greatest beach volleyball team of all time" and I think it would be fun to cheer them and the USA on.

The male athlete I would most like to watch compete is Trent Richardson. I am a huge Cleveland fan, Browns, Indians, and Cavs but enjoy watching the Browns the most and just hope they get better every season. I have faith in Jimmy Haslam and for the first time in a long time the Browns are getting a little recognition and have some more hope as well. I think Trent Richardson is a great running back (apparently the University of Alabama just produces amazing running backs every year) and could have a very bright future, hopefully he sticks with Cleveland.

I don't have any concerns about taking this class; it was on the checklist and just hope I can pass with a good grade.

  1. Hi Matt,

This is a well-written introduction and I enjoyed reading about the athletes you would be interested in seeing. I remember watching the gold medal game in Women's Beach Volleyball and seem to recall that it was a close game. I also heard that although Misty May-Treanor retired this year, Kerri Walsh may play again in 2016 (with another partner). That would be amazing if she won another gold medal!

I can certainly understand your enthusiasm about Trent Richardson as well. This was a nice clip that you shared. How did Cleveland not win that first game against Philadelphia? It seemed like there were a number of games that were within reach but we just couldn't finish them. I wondered what you thought about the recent hiring of Rob Chudzinski. I know he has some history with the Browns, and it is nice to know that he wants to be here. I hope it pays off!!

Good start on the blog entries and I look forward to reading your future submissions.

That would be amazing for Kerri if she won another gold medal with another partner, I know she was upset to lose Misty May-Treanor but she would probably be even more upset to lose beach volleyball altogether. I hope she can keep winning because that seems to be all she knows.

Cleveland did struggle winning games again this year but thats nothing us Cleveland fans aren't use to. Even in some of their losses this season it was still fun to watch them play and actually score touchdowns for once, and they did lose some close ones. Hopefully their right on the edge of turning things around.

Throughout this whole head coach search I was really warming up to Chip Kelley as the new head coach because of his exciting offense at Oregon but if he doesn't want the job then theres no need to keep interest in him. I love the fact that Chudzinski wants to be there and I hope he does well.
